1. How long have you been around?
The BC Society for Policy Solutions started operations in February 2025. After the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives closed the BC office, most of the team regrouped into this organization, making us a new organization but with decades of experience under our belt. Read our launch statement here.
2. What happened to the CCPA–BC Office?
You can read the letter to supporters here and an update on the ongoing conflict here.
3. I was a donor to the CCPA–BC Office. Did my donation automatically transfer to this organization?
Unfortunately, no. The CCPA and the BC Society for Policy Solutions are separate charities. If you wish to support the BCSPS you will need to make donations directly to the new Society. Read the letter from our board, which addresses this topic here.
4. Can you switch my donation from the now closed CCPA–BC to you?
We cannot. You have to contact the CCPA directly if you want to stop or modify your donation to the CCPA. If you wish to support the BCSPS you will need to make donations directly to the new Society. Find ways to give here.
5. Why wasn’t I notified about the CCPA—BC office closure?
You as a supporter deserved better. Because the CCPA is a single legal entity, we were not at liberty to contact BC supporters and advise you of developments. That remains the case to this day; without an agreement with the CCPA national office, we remain legally unable to directly communicate with supporters of the former CCPA BC Office. Read more here.
6. Is your work BC focused?
Yes! Together with community partners and collaborators, our work addresses many of the most pressing issues facing people in BC, including climate and energy policy, labour precarity and workers’ rights, decolonization, housing, living wages, poverty and welfare, tax fairness, healthcare, seniors care, education and many more. Of course, when national or international issues affect our province (e.g., tariffs), we will address them, too.
7. When will the new Society start publishing new research?
We are proud to say that we hit the ground running. Shortly after starting operations, our research team was already in the BC Budget lockup and publishing in-depth research that garnered considerable media attention. View our latest publications here and check out our media appearances here.
Thank you for your support and your interest in this important work—which is only possible thanks to engaged people like you. Should you have any questions about our work or your donations, don’t hesitate to contact us.
